Cincinnati Art Museum

If you haven’t been to the Cincinnati Art Museum lately now is the perfect time! There are tons of things going on right now, and you can’t beat the price (free!) So soak up a little culture already!
A special exhibition is running right now, until May 17, with displays on surrealist artwork. There are over 200 works on loan from the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, including works from Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso. Here is what the art museum itself had to say about the exhibit on its website:

“Surrealism and Beyond is an in-depth survey of the Dada and Surrealism movements, which emerged in response to the wars that devastated Europe in the first half of the twentieth century”

This is the only stop this exhibit is making in the US, so be sure to catch it while you can!

There are other temporary exhibits on display now as well. Cincinnati artist Stewart Goldman is currently showing a collection of his work, There is an amazing Alfa Romeo 1964 Giulia Sprint Speciale on display, and there is a collection of “contemporary art created outside the mainstream” on display in the “Isn’t it Great to be an Artist?” exhibition.

While you are there be sure to check out the hundreds of other artifacts that are permanently on display. Some favorites include Egyptian sarcophagi, Nabataean art not found outside of Jordan, fashion arts, Oriental American and African artworks, and classic European and American paintings and sculptures. For a more “personal” experience, wander through the large collections or portraits, photographs and miniatures.

After a long morning browsing the beautiful are on display you might work up an appetite. Be sure to stop by the Terrace Café for some delicious soups and sandwiches for lunch. There is a nice selection, and the food is delicious and fresh.

And finally, if you don’t get enough beauty inside the museum, remember to take a stroll through the outside sculpture collections and beautiful Eden Park where the museum is located. The views are almost as breath-taking as the art!

Best view in the City - Carew Tower

Step out onto the observation deck of the Carew Tower and you may need to hold your breath.

One of Downtown's most famous buildings, the Carew tower, as Cincinnati’s tallest building, is a treat for the eye. It also has something for everyone-from shopping and restaurants to a great hotel. It is a must-see for any Cincinnatian or anyone traveling through.

When visiting the tower, start from the top. The view is amazing. An observation deck sits atop the 49 stories, and on a clear day you can see all of downtown (including the stadiums and Bengals practice field), an awesome river view, Mt. Adams, the trains and most of Cincy's seven hills. You can also get a taste of the hey-day of the building when walking up the short slights of steps that lead to the deck. They missed the rescent renovation and are still have the original art-deco flavor. Be sure to stop in the gift shop on your way out to pick up a kitschy Cincy souvenir.

If Kitschy souvenirs aren’t your thing, you are sure to find something at the mall located in the lower level. There are dozens of stores, including FYE, Nine West and the Dakota Watch company. When you have had your fill of shopping, book a relaxing facial and massage at Paragon Salon, or enjoy a Cincinnati-famous three-way at Goldstar Chilli.
